The opening ceremony of the first joint congress of computational intelligence CCI2020 was held virtually on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, hosted by Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM).

Welcoming the participants in the congress, Prof. Mohammad-R. Akbarzadeh-T, General Chair of the Congress, said: "Artificial intelligence today is not just a scientific curiosity or research whose results are limited to several advanced industries and its application to people in the future and a very distant place." Artificial intelligence began with the invention of the steam turbine and later continued with the invention of electric power and digital electronics. We are in the fourth stage of this process of the scientific revolution and it is natural that at this stage one of the basic questions for us is how we can use artificial intelligence in the service of human society, which is the purpose of holding this congress.

In this direction, other scientific centers of excellence of the country, scientific associations, all industries, government organizations, universities, science and technology parks, startups and knowledge-based companies, etc. must join to meet the challenges of humanity. In this congress, due to the special conditions that prevail in the world, we went through an 18-month process to reach this point, and many accompanied us on this path. In the end, I invite all of you to participate in this congress, and I hope that with the help of each of you in the different positions you are in, we will be able to find a common chapter in this congress and solve the main challenges of the country and how We can use artificial intelligence to serve human society.

Prof. Kafi, President of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, while expressing his satisfaction that this university is proud to host this great congress from 2 to 4 September, said: "With all the problems that exist in the way of holding such meetings, with the great efforts of the executive team and your cooperation, we will hold this congress in the best possible way at FUM."

One of the advantages of holding this congress is that several axes and conferences that were held separately in previous years, such as the 8th Joint Congress on Fuzzy and Intelligent Systems (CFIS2020) and the 4th Conference on Swarm Intelligence and Evolutionary Computation (CSIEC2020) were held simultaneously. The 19th Iranian Fuzzy Systems Conference and the 17th Iranian Intelligent Systems Conference will be held jointly.

The opening ceremony was continued with a speech by Prof. Pourreza, Head of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Rahimi, Deputy Minister of Research, Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Prof. Fathi, Vice President of the Iranian Intelligent Systems Society, Prof. Zahedi, President of the Iranian Fuzzy Systems Society, and Mr. Mohammad Reza Heidari, Chairman of the Islamic Council of Mashhad.
