Nine faculty members of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad are on the list of the world's most-cited scientists according to the latest list of researchers that their papers are ranked in the top 1% in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) database. These researchers are those who have received the most citations in each subject area at the international level over the past decade.

Prof. Javad Abolfazli Esfahani from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mohammad Hassan Entezari from the Department of Chemistry, Prof. Mohammad Pasandidehfard from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Mohammad Sal Moslehian from the Department of Pure Mathematics, Prof. Mohammad Farzam from the Department of Rangeland and Watershed Management, Prof. Mahmood Farzaneh-Gord from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Arash Koocheki from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Prof. Mohabbat Mohebbi from the Department of Food Science and Industry, and Dr. Kamal Naseri from the Department of Rangeland and Watershed Management from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad are on this list.

The ESI database, owned by Clarivate Analysis (formerly ISI), is an analytical tool for identifying high-level research on the Web of Science database. The database covers more than 11,000 scientific journals worldwide and ranks authors, institutes, countries, and journals in 22 different disciplines based on information science and scientometric principles. ESI data is based on the past decade data and is ranked and updated every two months.
