The Director-General of Student Affairs and Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education of Iraq, along with his deputies and experts, visited the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) from Saturday to Tuesday. They had meetings with FUM officials and had a talk with Iraqi students.
During the meeting with Professor Mohammad Kafi, President of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Dr. Zeinab Moazenzadeh, Head of the International Students Office of FUM, presented a report of their visits. Then, Dr. Ehsan Ghabool, Head of International Academic Relations of FUM, referred to the studying of 800 Iraqi students at FUM and mentioned the university's plans to increase that number to 2,000 students. He outlined the university's plans to improve the quality of education and research for international students and mentioned some of the memoranda of understanding between FUM and the Ministry of Higher Education of Iraq.
Dr. Alaa, Director-General of Student Affairs and Scholarships at the Ministry of Higher Education of Iraq, thanked FUM for providing a suitable educational and research environment for Iraqi students. He praised the reputation of the FUM in Iraq and consider it as the first choice of Iraqi students.
Prof. Ahmad Reza Bahrami, Vice President for Research and Technology of FUM, pointed to FUM's readiness to offer postgraduate study opportunities and courses for professors of Iraq. Prof. Reza Pishghadam, Vice President for Academic Affairs of FUM, introduced a conceptual model of teaching for enhancing the educational quality of Iraqi students. Dr. Adel Sepehr, Director of the President's Office and Public Relations Department, also noted that this year is the seventh anniversary of the establishment of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, and invited Iraqi faculty to attend the program. Dr. Mohammad Taghavi, Head of the International Center for Teaching Persian Language to Non-Persian Speakers of FUM, presented a report on Persian language education programs of this center.
At the end of the program, Prof. Mohammad Kafi, President of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, thanked the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education for the presence of the high-level delegation. He noted that the internationalization of FUM is in its early steps, and has been accelerated by university programs. He said Ferdowsi University of Mashhad is recognized as one of the top universities in Iran and international areas. Prof. Kafi considered scientific diplomacy which is established between Iran and Iraq is the most enduring relations between the two countries and will have the greatest long-term benefits for both nations. He described the open approach of FUM to Iraqi students and professors as a sign of FUM's original goal for promoting knowledge in Iraq, which would not be significant for Iraqis in any country.
