The opening ceremony of the 4th Assembly of Iranian and Arab Universities was held at Faculty of Letters and Humanities, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) On Tuesday, December 24, 2019.
The event attended by Professor Hossein Salar Amoli Ghaem, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology in International Affairs, Professor Kafi, President of FUM, Professor Mohammad Maher Kabakibi, Representative of Universities of Syria, Dr. Jalal Juma, Representative of Lebanese Universities, Dr. Mohsen Aboud Mohsen, Representative of Iraqi Universities, Dr. Taqi al Abduwani, Representative of Oman Universities, and a group of Deans of Iranian and Arab Universities.
Prof. Kafi, President of FUM, in his welcoming remarks, warmly welcomed Lebanese Minister of Sports and Youth Muhammad Fneish, Prof. Salar Amoli Ghaem, Iran Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology in International Affairs, as well as heads and directors of universities in Oman, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.
Then he spoke about the proposal for changing the name of this large assembly and requested that it should not only be an assembly for Iranian and Arab universities, but also for the universities of other neighboring countries, saying, “We could benefit from a friend and neighboring countries such as Turkey, Afghanistan and Malaysia”.
At the end of the meeting, Prof. Kafi thanked the efforts of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance as well as international colleagues at FUM for holding this great assembly.
Prof. Salar Amoli thanked FUM for holding this conference and spoke about three subjects including science and technology for the sake of society, globalizing the higher education for being in the global knowledge cycle, and offering suitable professions and skills for graduate students.
In this Ceremony, Dr. Ehsan Ghabool, Head of International Academic Relations of FUM welcomed the attendance and noted that FUM is in the place of relating Iranian and Arab universities. He mentioned that there are more than a thousand Arabic-speaking students from ten Arab countries at FUM. Then, he spoke of two important goals; the first aim is to establish relations among the students of the assembly, as well as holding summer workshops in the member universities of the assembly next year. The second aim is to establish relations among the professors of this assembly, based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which is prepared for the signature of the presidents. This MoU will enable the faculty of each university to attend another university, especially for study opportunities.
