Botanists of the Plant Science Research Institute, in line with their national and international cooperation with botanists of the National Center for Genetic and Biological Resources of Iran and the German IPK Institute, succeeded in discovering a new plant species for the world from Iran. This discovery belongs to a species of mountain onion (Allium) from the genus Amaryllidaceae, which was collected for the first time from the province of West Azerbaijan, Khoy city. After specialized studies by botanists of this research institute and researchers of the National Center for Genetic and Biological Resources of Iran and experts of IPK Institute, it was determined that the mentioned samples are a new species for botany and the world. The accuracy of identification and its genealogical position was also confirmed using molecular data. Holotype specimens of this species are kept in Ferdowsi University Herbarium of Mashhad.
This plant with the scientific name of Allium schisticola has been published as a report in the form of an ISI specialized article in "Phytotaxa" publications at https://www.biotaxa.org/Phytotaxa/article/view/phytotaxa.450.3.1.
