Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering

Horticulture is a complex of technique and art in the fields of Botany, Plant Physiology, Soil Science, Plant Nutrition, Genetics Plant Breeding, Pest, Diseases, Fruit Production (Pomology), Vegetable Production (Olericulture), Floriculture, Medicinal Plants and Landscape Design. Undergraduate branches are divided into 2 branches namely, Horticulture Engineering and Landscape Engineering. The aim of this stage is to provide knowledgeable experts in production, local planning and research. It is expected that the graduates be able to work as academic staff in agricultural organizations, as directors for governmental organizations and as experts able to conduct personal and organizational research in this field.

Based on their own interests, Horticulture and Landscape Management Department aims to train and educate students who are able to enhance the quality and quantity of horticultural products. It is expected that the graduates become able to solve existing problems in this field. On the other hand, academic and experienced experts in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering are prepared to answer the educational requirements of Horticulture and other related topics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the School of Agriculture.

The aim of the undergraduate program in Horticulture and Landscape Engineering at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, which was established in 1995, is to train individuals who can serve the society as specialists in different programs of study such as regional planning, and academic fields, or as Lecturers at agricultural education and research institutes, or as administrators and directors at governmental and private manufacturing companies.

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering first began to admit students into the MSc program in 2003 with the aim of training specialists who could effectively exploit the potentials and improve the quality and quantity of gardening products. Graduates would also be able to teach Horticulture and related courses to undergraduate students in various schools of Agriculture across the country.

The aim of our doctoral program which was started in 2010 is to train graduates who can manage educational, planning and research affairs in the different branches of this major or teach at universities and research institutes or perform planning tasks at executive organizations.
