International Conference on Integrative Approaches of Rodent Studies ( Archive )







The Institute of Applied Zoology and the Biology Department of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History of Paris, the Research Centre for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases of Pasteur Institute of Iran and the Iranian Biology Society, organized the “International Conference on Integrative Approaches of Rodent Studies”. This three-day conference was held at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran on January 27-29, 2018.


In the opening ceremony, Dr. Roohollah Siahsarvie, the scientific and administrative secretary of this conference said, “A large number of Iranian experts and members of academia have attended this three-day conference. Also, we have 14 international guests from France, Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Russia, Pakistan and Spain. Dr. Siahsarvie added that “overall, 150 articles were sent to the secretariat of the conference. After several rounds of evaluation, 95 articles were accepted, 38 of which were presented orally and the rest were accepted for poster presentation.


On the sidelines of this conference, a commemoration ceremony was held for Dr. Jamshid Darwish, the founder of animal biosystematics in Iran, founder of the Rodent Research Center at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, founder of the Applied Zoology Center at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and a well-known elite in Khorasan Razavi Province who was the secretary of this conference but passed away a few days before the start of the conference.


Dr. Christiane Denys, Professor at the National Museum of Natural History-Paris, participated in an exclusive interview with the public relations’ office at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Dr. Denys said: “This is the second time that I visit Iran. I'm glad to be here at this conference. Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has been a great host and we have had a good collaboration with this university for holding up the International Conference on Integrative Approaches to Rodent Studies. She continued, “I am an expert in Systematics and Evolution of small mammals and I have presented four research articles during this conference. My two main presentations are entitled "A review about the origins and the evolution of the Muridae" and "Methods of study and use of Rodent accumulations in avian predator's diet".


In another interview, Dr. Boris Krystufek, Professor at the Slovenian Museum of Natural History said: “Professor Jamshid Darvish was the best expert on the Biosystematics of Rodents and I’m deeply sorry that he has passed away. Talking about his main presentations at this conference, Dr. Krystufek mentioned two topics, namely “A living fossil from the Balkan refugium" and "Biodiversity Crisis in the Museum Shelves". As his final remarks, Dr. Krystufek said, “I am quite sure that we will have an excellent experience here in Mashhad, Iran.
