Discovery of Three New Animal Species by Researchers at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) ( Archive )







In a study conducted by Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM), three new species were discovered and described in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman for the first time.

In this research, which is a Ph.D. dissertation conducted by an animal biosystematics student, Ms. Fatemeh Nazari, under the guidance of Prof. Omid Mirshamsi (Biology Department), Dr. Alireza Sari (Tehran University), Dr. Mansour Aliabadian (Biology Department) and Dr. Pedro Martinez (Museum of Natural History of Senckenberg, Germany(, three new animal species were discovered and described in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman (Gulf of Oman) for the first time.

New species described for the zoology belong to the copepods, canuelloida order, of crustacean subphylum, which were studied in the tidal basins of Persian Gulf Persian and Gulf of Oman. The new species were named and described Brianola haliensis, Canuella persica and Scottolana gomezi.
