Performing a Static Test of Full-Scale Wind Turbine Blade at the Sun-Air Research Institute of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad ( Archive )

The first composite wind turbine blade which is designed and built inside the country, with a length of 12 meters and an approximate weight of 500 kilograms for the 100 kilowatt wind turbines, was successfully tested at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.

In this static test, the full scale was performed in accordance with the standard requirements of DNV-GL ST 376 and the maximum expected design loads of 110% (storm conditions of 50 years in the Binalood wind tunnel at air speeds of 52 m/s). The proper matching between strain and displacement measurement with the design values showed the accuracy of the analyzes. Before the static test, a modal test was performed on the blade and an appropriate fit between the results of the natural test frequencies and the design values was observed.

It should be noted that the ability to implement a set of processes of the design, analysis, construction and testing of complex composite structures, such as wind turbine blades, is one of the capabilities of the Sun-Air Research Institute of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.
