Freshmen Welcome Ceremony of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (FUM) was held with the presence of Dr. Ghaffari, Deputy Minister of Social and Cultural Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Mr. Asgari, Director General of Culture and Social Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Prof. Kafi, President of the University, Dr. Taheri, Vice Chancellor for Social and Student Affairs on Monday, 25 October 2021.


Dr. Ghaffari, Deputy Minister of Culture and Social Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Research and Technology, stated at the ceremony: " In studying the history of the university community, the student has a special place,” and added: "Students should be an social activism in addition to their scientific activities and education, which is the necessary and first condition for their presence in the university, and this is learned in the university."


Referring to the special position of FUM among the country's universities, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Social Affairs of the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, Research and Technology continued: “The social, historical, geographical situation and the professors of the university have an impact on FUM, and the location of this university next to the Holy Shrine of Imam Raza (A.S.) has added to the special position of this university.


He continued: "Now a great opportunity has begun for you newcomers to the university, and in the university, you should pursue a greater mission."


He announced: the university develops based on the material and spiritual capitals and students are also among the capital of the university. He then added: “the university is a place for learning, thinking, brainstorming, recognizing others and adhering to norms in the university as a social institution.”


Prof. Mohammad Kafi, President of FUM, while thanking the Vice Chancellor for Socio-Cultural and Student Affairs of FUM for holding this ceremony, said: “Dear students, you have now entered the large family of FUM. It has a population of 30,000 people and this population consists of 2,600 international students from 20 countries and different parts of the beloved country of Iran. In addition to learning science, you must learn how to live, love the environment, make good use of energy, take care of the university ecosystem, and engage in peaceful activities. “ He added, "You worked hard to enter this university, which is not an easy task, and in this regard, your parents worked hard to lay the groundwork for your education."


The President of FUM continued: “The necessary infrastructure in various fields in this university is ready so that this university is unique in the country. FUM is the largest scientific center in the east of the country and even in the eastern neighboring countries of Iran there is no scientific center of this size. He added: "Now these honors have been inherited from past students, and you should not limit yourself only to academic subjects, but you should also be active in social, cultural and student activities."


Prof. Kafi, referring to the absence of students due to the Corona virus, added: "The transfer of these experiences in cyberspace is difficult, of course, one of the benefits of physical presence at the university is gaining social and cultural experiences, and we hope to see students attend the university soon for more vitality and activity."


The President of FUM continued: "Your important mission is to study and gain knowledge, and now it is easier to do this than in the past, but the main and intense competition is to gain capability at the national and international levels. At the end of your education, you should be able to be employed with skills training, and Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has made this issue a priority.


Hojatoleslam Hosseini, the head of the Representation of the Supreme Leader at FUM, also said at the ceremony: "We see you as the managers of Islamic republic of Iran." He continued: "All the current managers of the country will retire in the next few years, and a revolutionary manager is not going to enter from outside Iran to manage the country, so you must be able to cultivate yourself in a way that fits the lifestyle of this system."


The Head of the Representation of the Supreme Leader at FUM stated: “You are currently studying at a university located next to the Holy Shrine of Imam Raza (A.S) and you should use this opportunity to increase your spirituality.


At the end of the ceremony, the Negarestan Pardis of FUM was inaugurated and put into operation. In addition to the exhibition hall, handicrafts market and comfort environment, the Negarestan Pardis of FUM has a meeting hall and an open-air digital cinema equipped with new audio and video technologies with a capacity of over 500 people.
