A Lecture on COVID-19 by the Researcher from University of California, San Francisco

The International Cooperation Development Office of the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad was held an online lecture on COVID-19 and the use of human stem cell technology to detect the disease on January 16, 2021. This Lecture was given by Dr. Homa Majd, Postdoctoral Researcher, Institute of Stem Cells, University of California, San Francisco.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Homa Majd stated that this lecture was the result of an article extracted from the project of the research team of Dr. Frank Fattahi and Dr. Hani Goodarzi entitled: “Androgen Signaling Regulates SARS-CoV-2 Receptor Levels and Is Associated with Severe COVID-19 Symptoms in Men” which is published in the journal cell stem cell.

She went on to describe the importance of stem cells in medical research and the control of COVID-19 disease and described the stem cell-based system, the process of reviewing FDA-approved drugs, and the discovery of candidate drugs that reduce viral receptors.
