E-Learning Center

Nowadays, virtual universities are one of the newest and most efficient forms of distance learning which have played a significant role in education across the world. Virtual universities have changed the concept of traditional classes. Although the activities, which are held in virtual classes are similar to those in traditional classes, the environment is totally different. Ferdowsi University of Mashhad has been one of the pioneers in e-learning. The idea of having virtual classes was put forward in 2001 at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. The virtual university committee, under the supervision of Information, and Communication Center was formed afterward. This committee aims at developing the basic requirements for establishing a virtual university and its administrative aspects. The result of a research project led to the authorization issued by the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad Board of Directors and the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology to establish one virtual major in the Bachelor’s and nine virtual majors in the Master’s program. This led to the establishment of E-learning Center at Ferdowsi university of Mashhad in 2001. It was established to put more emphasis on e-learning and to develop the idea of electronic education.

At the moment, more than 35 undergraduate virtual university subjects are offered in every semester. Summer semester classes are also offered virtually at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. In addition, the content of more than 100 subjects of Bachelor’s programs is available virtually on e-learning portals. They can either be used as e-learning materials or supplemental online materials to traditional classes.

    • Offering university courses and majors electronically
    • Offering individual subjects electronically inside and outside the university
    • Preparing course contents based on the SCORM standard
    • Video-recording of class presentations of all faculties to upload to the online e-learning center portal
    • Organizing and supporting conferences, meetings, and seminars electronically
    • Holding and supporting on-line thesis defense sessions in all faculties
    • Collaborating with other universities and institutions to hold virtual supplementary classes
    • Supporting on-line interview and introductory sessions
    • Equipping faculties with facilities available in the e-learning center
    • Holding workshops for faculty members to help them embed information technology in their teaching and enhance educational programs. More
