The inauguration ceremony of the biggest covered university pool in Eastern Iran was held on 20 October 2010 at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Several regional and national authorities participated at this inauguration ceremony. As the first speaker, Dr Alireza Ashuri, the President of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad at the time, said: This pool has been constructed based on updated international standards in order to provide students, employees and faculty members with high-quality sport amenities.

With a total area of 6350 square meters, the covered swimming pool of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad is considered as one of the biggest pools in Iranian universities and the only standard swimming pool for professional competitions in Khorasan Razavi Province.

The complex includes the following facilities:

1) Main pool (50*25 m) for standard professional competitions

2) Children’s pool (6*8 m)

3) Steam sauna, dry sauna, Jacuzzi

4) Hydrotherapy section, fitness room

5) Uncovered cafeteria on the 1st floor and coffee shop on the ground floor

6) Audience section

7) Supervisory and administrative rooms

The purification system of this pool makes use of sandy filters and the required measures have been taken for installing ozonation systems and diatomite filters as complementary to the current filtering system.

In order to expand the swimming pool in the future, there is the possibility to build an additional independent pool. In fact, parts of the mechanical equipment have been installed in the current powerhouse and refinery.

The total cost of this project was 54 billion IRR at the time.
