Bachelor's Program:
Geology is the science and study of the solid and liquid matter that constitute the Earth. The field of geology encompasses the study of the composition, structure, physical properties, dynamics, and history of Earth materials, and the processes by which they are formed, moved, and changed. Geologists help locate and manage the Earth's natural resources, such as petroleum and coal, as well as metals such as iron, copper, and uranium. In addition, geologists and geophysicists study natural hazards in order to enact safe building codes and warning systems that are used to prevent loss of property and life.
Students are trained to fully understand the fundamental concepts of geology and its societal applications for the purpose of putting them into effective operation in the future. There are 133 credits offered in this program.
Master's and Ph.D. Programs:
There are currently 6 areas of specialization offered at the M.Sc. level: Economic Geol., Engineering Geol., Sedimentology, Stratology, Fossilology, and Sedimentary Petrology. 72 Master's students are studying these areas at this time; 4 Ph.D. students are studying Economic Geol.
