Irrigation is an artificial application of water to the soil usually for assisting in growing crops. In crop production it is mainly used in dry areas and in periods of rainfall shortfalls, but also to protect plants against frost. Additionally irrigation helps to suppress weed growing in rice fields. The Dept. currently offers a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Irrigation. At the Bachelor's level, a minimum of 135 hours of credit is required. The Dept. also offers a Master's degree in Agricultural Meteorology, a branch of meteorology that examines the effects and impacts of weather and climate on crops, rangeland, livestock, and various agricultural operations. The Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) will be offered in the future.
