Department of French Language and Literature

The Department of French Language and Literature at Dr. Ali Shariati Faculty of Letters and Humanities and Humanities established the Bachelor’s program in 1956 with the aim of training graduates who are equipped with the general knowledge and acceptable proficiency in the language and culture of France. These graduates will be able to play a major role in creating constructive communications and interactions between Iran and French speaking countries and will also be able to exchange scientific, literary and educational ideas and achievements. Such graduates can teach French at schools and language institutes. Preparing human resources who are fluent in French language for occupations that demand such skills is another aim of the Department of French Language and Literature. The staff of this department also attempt to provide educational possibilities for those who are interested to learn another foreign language besides English at the academic level.

The Department of French language and literature at Dr. Ali Shariati Faculty of Letters and Humanities offers two Master’s degree programs.

The Literature program (launched in 1990) with the aim of educating graduates with knowledge and high fluency in French and the ability to do research in one of the specialized fields of French language and literature. The aim of the translation program (launched in 2014) is to educate quality translators capable of translating texts from French into Persian and vice versa. Another objective of these programs is also to train specialists who are capable of playing an effective role in interactions and exchange of scientific and cultural ideas between Iran and French-speaking countries.More
