Department of Islamic Philosophy and Theosophy

The department of Islamic Philosophy and Theosophy was established in 1958 at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. In this department, the students become familiar with Islamic philosophy and methods of defying atheistic ideas. The alumni are specialized in Islamic sciences and will be able to overcome incertitude in faith issues. Moreover, B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. students graduating in this major are expected to be knowledgeable in the fields of logic and mysticism.

Founded in 1975, the Master’s program for Philosophy and Theosophy aims to make students familiar with philosophical and divine issues in the Islamic as well as Western world. The aim of this program is to enhance students’ capabilities in defending the Islamic principles and ideology.

The doctoral program has been admitting candidates since 2011. This program aims to help students to become knowledgeable about Mulla Sadra’s philosophical theory. Mulla Sadra or Mollasadra or Sadr-ol-Mote'allehin was an Iranian Shia Islamic philosopher, theologian and scholar who led the Iranian cultural renaissance in the 17th century. The objective of this kind of study is to empower doctoral candidates with the ability to employ such theories in social issue such as ethics, politics, education, etc. More
