Department of Islamic Civilization and Culture

In 1969, the Department of Islamic Civilization and Culture was establish at the Faculty of Theology at the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad. Students in the Bachelor’s program are expected to develop knowledge of identifying and revitalizing resources of cultural heritage and to acknowledge the role of Iranians in the development of Islamic civilization. They are also expected to demonstrate ability to study the developmental factors as well as the obstacles in the development of Islamic civilization and to become familiar with historical geography of Islamic countries.

The Department of Islamic Civilization and Culture offers Master’s program with the aim of preparing researchers in Islamic History and Arts and as a whole in different subject areas of Islamic civilization and culture. This department also trains specialists who can serve the needs of Cultural Offices and delegations of the Islamic Republic of Iran in other countries. The Department of Islamic Civilization and Culture expects graduates to be able to help the enhancement of scientific knowledge of officials and cultural specialists of governmental organizations.

The Department of Islamic Civilization and Culture also offers a Doctoral program. The aim of this program is to prepare researchers as well as academics capable of teaching and carrying out research in universities and other educational institutions and specialists in Islamic studies. It also attempts to educate Islamic officials for Iranian offices and delegates in other countries. More
